Updated: Apr 19, 2011 5:09 PM CDT
PARSONS, KANSAS –

Parsons, Kansas becomes becomes the first in the state to adopt a pseudoephedrine ordinance requiring a prescription.

In March the ordinance was the topic of a Parsons commission meeting. At that time it was only in the first reading.

But now it is official.

In a unanimous vote the city commission has agreed to make the drug available only by prescription.

The Parson Police Department has been involved with the statewide push for such a regulation.

Supporters say states that have passed similar laws have seen substantial drops in meth labs.

The ordinance takes effect June 1.
